Light at the end of the tunnel for live events

We finally have some light at the end of the tunnel for live events, with restrictions set to lift as part of Step 4, subject to the outcomes of a series of pilot events.

Yesterday’s announcements mean a potential rollback of restrictions on live events as part of step 4, from 21 June in England.

In preparation for this, a new Government Events Research Programme has been announced, which will include a series of pilot events starting in April in England. These events with larger crowd sizes and reduced social distancing will be run with enhanced testing approaches and other measures, to evaluate the outcomes.

The findings will help determine when and how such events – including conferences and exhibitions, as well as consumer events such as festivals and sporting events – will be able to return safely.
