Striking a balance between fun, interaction and serious business at a virtual 2021 ‘kick-off’ event

January was a busy month for us at Event Works, a highlight being the planning and delivery of a 3-day virtual staff event for a team of 60 colleagues from the Climate division of Bayer – representing 11 countries across EMEA.

Working closely with the marketing lead, Event Works role was to help plan and deliver an event which was interactive and engaging, with plenty of opportunity for teambuilding.

We delivered the event over Zoom, using Menti as an additional tool to support interaction. We brought in our expert host who pulled everything together and delivered icebreakers/energiser activities in the morning, quizzes to round off each day, and a 2-hour gameshow activity on the middle day. This all culminated in an awards ceremony on the last day where the winning team was announced, and prizes shipped off to them.

We provided the speakers with guidance and tips on how to make their sessions interactive and engaging and supported them in using Menti during their talks and breakouts. We also built a website as a central hub for the programme, with links to the virtual platform and all other information related to this event, which gave fast access to the event information for all delegates.

In ‘normal’ circumstances, this team would have meet in person for this event to kick the year off with business strategy, training and team networking.  However, this year their only option was to run the event virtually – they were delighted with how it went and had great feedback from the team.

Having the Event Works team on our side to organise the virtual event really made a difference to the event we delivered to our team, in particular in terms of the interactivity and engagement.
It helped our people to pay attention and feel involved during a 3-day event, while seated in front of their computer screens! They appreciated the balance between entertainment and useful information, which served our goal to reenergise the team at the beginning of the season.
